Great photo! Life can be a long, consistent struggle against the harsh Elements, particularly when you set roots down and are unable to move to more favourable surroundings.
I wonder what that environment was like when the seed was first planted? Was it as harsh as it seems here? Would it have moved if it could?
That particular beach had dozens of uprooted trees that have turned into driftwood…in fact the beach is called Driftwood Park. I would suspect that the shore line changed, killing and uprooting trees that at one time comfortably grew to maturity there (some are huge and I have other pictures I’ll be posting).
I love your keen analogy of putting down roots and being unable (or unwilling) to move. 🙂 Thanks again.
These days i think people are becoming more aware of the fragility and changeability of our shorelines and am sure your suspicions would be correct. 🙂
Sounds like a great place for a photographer with a keen eye though! 🙂
